Waldport Gets Some of Oregon's Heaviest Rainfall
Waldport sits at the mouth of the Alsea River where coastal moisture concentrates in the river valley, producing annual rainfall that often exceeds 70 inches. This is among the highest totals for any populated area in Oregon. Winter storms routinely deliver multi-day rain events where 4-6 inches can fall in 48 hours.
The combination of extreme volume, salt air from the bay and ocean, and wind-driven debris from the surrounding conifer forests creates conditions that push gutter systems to their absolute limits. Standard 5-inch gutters with 2x3 inch downspouts simply cannot move enough water during the heaviest events.
